After lingering at the top, but not leading each of the three practice sessions, the Ford team showed their speed taking pole position in the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR.

Joey Hand turned an emphatic 1:40.211, the fastest time of the weekend to put his No. 66 Ford GT on pole.

“I had a good one going on the second to last lap,” Hand said.

“I come across the line and (Team Manager, Mike) O’Gara said that’s second by two-hundredths and I said ‘Oh man, that was a good one but I think I’ve got more.

“I did another lap and I got even a little bit more, I got two-tenths more out of it.

“I came down the hill and before I even crossed the line I said ‘Hey guys, that’s it. I’m going back off here and if that doesn’t cut it, nothing’s going to cut it.'”

Just behind Hand are the BMW pair of Alexander Sims and John Edwards in the No. 25 and No. 26 respectively.

Risi Competizione, after leading the Saturday morning session, will start fourth tomorrow at VIRginia International Racing in their return to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship racing.

The Corvette Racing teammates of Tommy Milner and Jan Magnussen fill out the third row. Milner, in the No. 4, just bested championship leader, and reigning race winner, Magnussen in the No. 3.

Polesitter Hand’s teammate, Richard Westbrook, slotted the No. 67 Ford in seventh, with the two Porsche 911 RSRs bringing up the rear.
