Three different Michelin-shod IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTLM teams took the top spot in each of the three Thursday practice sessions at Petit Le Mans.
Porsche paced the opening practice session, with Laurens Vanthoor, Gimmi Bruni and Earl Bamber setting the fastest time in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR.
The No. 912 led ahead of the Corvette pair, with the No. 4 of Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and Marcel Fassler besting the No. 3 Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Mike Rockenfeller piloted C7.R.
Vanthoor’s lead in the first session was only 0.004 of a second over Milner’s best time, and the entire nine-car GTLM field was separated by only 0.254 around the 2.54-mile Road Atlanta course.
In Practice two, the Risi Competizione No. 62 Ferrari 488 GTE of Giancarlo Fisichella, Toni Vilander and Alessandro Pier Guidi led the field.
The No. 4 Corvette again set the fastest time of the session and the fast guys from the first session, the No. 912 Porsche, came third.
As night set in, it was the BMW duo at the top with the No. 25 M6 GTLM of Bill Auberlen, Alexander Sims and Kuno Wittmer at the top.
The sister BMW, the John Edwards, Martin Tomczyk and Nicky Catsburg piloted No. 24, came second and the No. 4 Corvette dropped one position from their previous practice showings, coming third in the nighttime session.
